Sports Television has hit an all time low, when it was announced by ESPN that they would not be covering the 2008 Beijing Paralympic’s. For you that don’t know, the Paralympic’s take place 2 weeks after the Olympics, same arenas, same country, same everything. For fans of Paralympic and Disabled Sports, we are forced to watch second rate media coverage through online broadcasting from www.paralympic.org. So while there are almost 5 – 7 different Television stations in the country broadcasting the Olympics (ESPN, TNT, ABC, NBC, etc..) not one of them is giving the Paralympic’s the respect they deserve. In fact, I could even argue that Paralympic athletes are more deserving of media attention than are Olympic athletes due to the various obstacles Paralympic Athletes have to over come. So, two weeks from now when the Olympics are said and done, and the world has hoisted there national treasures of able bodied gold medal athletes up onto there pedestal’s, just remember that, we still have Athletes in Beijing competing to achieve there life long dreams of winning a medal in the Olympics, but thats right, no body will be able to see it……

Oh, Thanks! Really funny. Greets.
Dustin,
We saw your post above about U.S. coverage of the Beijing Paralympics and wanted to contact you and tell you we applaud your effort to bring attention to this situation. We are very frustrated by the lack of coverage in the United States for Paralympic Sports. That said, we are also working to change this.
Our company, Never Dull Productions (www.neverdullproductions.com), is putting up a one-hour show on ESPNU in September about the 2008 Paralympic World Cup Games which took place in Manchester, England in May. Produced by the BBC, the program features the world’s top elite athletes with disabilities in the sports of Swimming, Cycling, Wheelchair Basketball and Track & Field. Many of these athletes will be competing in this year’s Beijing Paralympic Games. Top competitors featured in the program include: Natalie Du Toit, the first amputee swimmer to compete in both the Olympics and Paralympics, American Jeff Skiba, the first amputee to clear seven feet in the high jump, American sprinter April Holmes, the world’s fastest woman amputee, the US mens’ wheelchair basketball team and the Chinese women’s wheelchair basketball team.
There will be three airings of the program on September 2, 5 and 9.
As far as we know, this will be the only Paralympic-related sports programming showing in the U.S. as the Beijing Paralympics begin on September 6. So, at least in a small way, the U.S. audiences will be able to see what Paralympic sports are all about.
We are hoping that you help spread about our broadcast! A video promo is available and can be seen at either: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMKWhg81KlY. or http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1616315/the_2008_paralympic_world_cup_games_on_u_s_television/
We are planning more disabled sports programming for the United States with various ESPN platforms and look forward to a U.S. broadcast of the Winter games in 2010.
We can be reached at neverdull@earthlink.net if anyone has questions.
Continued success on your efforts and thank you for your attention to this email.
